How to find a promo code that works

Published October 24, 2026

Why a promo code is refused and how to avoid wasting time: conditions, expiry, one code per order and reliable sources.

A promo code refused at checkout is almost always down to a condition you did not see, not a fault of the site. Here are the most common causes and how to spot them before typing anything.

Why a code is refused

  • It has expired: offers have an end date, sometimes down to the minute.
  • The basket is too low: many codes require a minimum amount, excluding delivery.
  • It only applies to certain products or categories, and not to items already on sale.
  • It is reserved for new customers, a mobile app or newsletter subscribers.
  • It cannot be combined: most stores accept only one code per order.

How to check before you pay

  • Read the conditions shown with the code: minimum amount, excluded products, end date.
  • Compare the final price, delivery included, with and without the code: a discount can be cancelled out by fees.
  • Try one code at a time and note the one that lowers the total.
  • Consider the newsletter or sign-up: some stores offer a welcome code there, under their current conditions.

Reliable sources

The best codes come from the store itself: site banner, the store's email, its offers page. Promo code sites relay those offers and can show expired ones: treat a code as a lead to verify, not a guarantee.

On Reducart, each code shows whether it worked for other visitors when they report it, and we never guarantee that a code will work.
